There are three types of batteries.
- AGM Batteries for cars with start-stop systems
A maintenance-free battery is filled and sealed in the factory. The big advantage is that a maintenance-free battery does not have to be topped up with battery acid. Maintenance free batteries are sealed at the factory and should never be opened. Maintenance-free just like any other battery however slowly drains in cold weather and when the vehicle is left standing.
With non-maintenance-free batteries, the water in the battery evaporates when charging and discharging. This battery should be topped up with distilled water. Tip: when cleaning or refilling a battery, always use protective clothing.
AGM Batteries for cars with start-stop systems
Batteries used for cars with a start-stop system are called AGM batteries. They are specially designed to withstand the high degree of load longer. These batteries are usually about 30% more expensive than normal batteries.
